Description

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a medical condition where blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs is abnormally high, leading to stress on the heart and reduced oxygen supply to the body. It can be caused by various factors such as congenital heart defects, lung diseases, sleep apnea, and blood clots in the lungs. Symptoms of pulmonary hypertension include shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, fatigue, and swelling in the ankles and legs. It is typically diagnosed by imaging tests, such as echocardiography, and treated with medications that work to reduce blood pressure and improve blood flow in the lungs. In severe cases, lung transplantation may be necessary.
