WHAT IS WHO?

▪ World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned
with International public health.

▪ It was established on 7th of April 1948 and its headquarter is located in Geneva: Switzerland

▪ It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the research
agenda, setting norms and standards, providing technical support to countries and
monitoring and assessing health trends.

Nutrition

 Nutrition is a critical part of health and development.

 It is the process of taking in food and using it for growth, metabolism, repair.

 These nutrition include proteins, carbohydrates, fat, water, vitamins and minerals.

 Better nutrition is related to improved infant, child and maternal health, stronger
immune system, safer pregnancy and child birth, lower risk of communicable
diseases and longevity.

 People with adequate nutrition are always more productive and can create
opportunities to gradually break the cycles of poverty and malnutrition

 WHO is providing scientific advice and decision making tools that can help counties
to take action to eradicate malnutrition
